Fine wine from Pfalz Germany
Palatinate is the second largest wine-growing region in Germany, after Rheinhessen. Pfalz has 58,000 hectares (23,400 ha) of land planted around vines. Palatinate has more in common with Alsace as a wine region than other wine regions. There are around 10,000 winemakers in the region, half of whom are contractors. The region is so densely planted that vines outnumber residents 600:1.
