Fine wine from Südtirol Italy
A range of high-quality wines are produced in the northern Italian area of Südtirol, often known as South Tyrol. Schiava, a red wine made from the Schiava grape, and Gewürztraminer, a white wine created from the Gewürztraminer fruit, are two of the most famous wines produced in Südtirol.
Schiava, a red wine with a fruity, floral scent and flavor, is a great match for lighter meals and shellfish.
White wines, like the floral-scented Gewürztraminer, are a great match with seafood and poultry.
Red wines from Südtirol, like the Vernatsch and Lagrein, are known for their rich aromas of lush red fruit and spices; they go well with hearty fare like beef and aged cheeses.
Südtirol also makes a variety of different wines, including white Chardonnay, red Merlot, and sweet Moscato Rosa. Trento DOC, a sparkling wine, is only one of many examples of the region's vinous offerings.
